Global Recognition: Gouni Debaters Excel on the World Stage
The Godfrey Okoye University Debating Club (GOUNIDC) has reached a new milestone at the Kampala Open 2026, a tournament featuring 200 institutions from Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.
Chinedu Ogbonna Donald and Adibo Tiffany secured a historic first for the university by breaking into the Open Semi-finals. They finished the preliminary rounds ranked 12th out of 200 teams, earning 11 out of 15 points.
The university’s strong showing continued with several other high-level placements:
Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu, Ifeanyi Kamsiyochukwu, and Egbogu Favour reached the Quarter-finals of the public speaking category.
Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu and Ifeanyi Kamsiyochukwu advanced to the Semi-finals in Public Speaking.
Ajoiyi Kosisochukwu was recognized individually as the 5th Best Speaker of the tournament.
GOUNIDC celebrates these students for their remarkable skill and for representing the university with distinction in this international arena.
