Winning the BlueCode Hackathon was a truly transformative experience, deeply impacting my journey. It significantly sharpened my technical skills, pushing me to innovate and solve complex problems under intense pressure. My sincere thanks go to BlueCode and the Directorate of Competitions (DICOM) for bringing such an invaluable and rewarding opportunity to our university. I am incredibly grateful for this impactful platform that has boosted my confidence and passion for technology.
The directorate’s impact on the school and on my life is nothing short of revolutionary. Competitions within and outside the school have been revitalised since their arrival, and the spirit of “the overachiever “ has grown in the students. I was impacted by the hackathon they brought to the school by partnering with Bluecode. It allowed me to showcase my skills along with my teammates, and as fate would have it, we won the competition, taking first position and winning millions of Naira. The influence of the directorate can be felt, albeit in its short time in the university, and it’ll only grow better with time
Becoming Debate Coordinator in my 100 level came as a shock and an honour to me. Debating has become a part of me now and being on this journey of personal growth and enlightenment has allowed me to meet new people, learn new things and build confidence. I am grateful for this opportunity provided by the Directorate of Competitions and Godfrey Okoye University. I look forward to more competitions and making myself proud.
DICOM has impacted my academic and personal life positively in the sense that it has made me outspoken and also a critical thinker in my dealings due to the fact that I am an adjudicator and a debater,now I can speak publicly without being frightened. Hail DICOM
Beyond me being a student aid,this directorate has really helped me. I remember the first debate I did in school, I got up stage and completely forgot all I had learnt and even our stance in the debate (proposing/opposing), after that embarrassing experience, I vowed never to do any debate again. But when this directorate became active, I was encouraged by some people to give it a try again. As scared as I was, my second attempt at it was amazing and we won the debate, and after then, by the help of the directorate, I have been engaged in different opportunities to debate in different spaces, of which we have won several awards. And I can only be grateful to God for this platform he has used, to bless not only me but may others. Also, as a student aid, it has helped me financially and even to gain experience and knowledge, especially as to how things should be handled
I have been able to gain a lot of confidence while speaking on stage, I'm more fluent now and my level of fast and critical reasoning has transformed to a great level due to the numerous competitions I partake in and also the new style of debate (British parliamentary style) I was introduced to just by joining the directorate of competitions.
I think Dicom made me see a new aspect of life. And in not just debating but in helping a cause. Fighting for victory and supporting my team. My introduction into bp debating by Dicom is one of my greatest experiences. It really shaped how i think and how i percieve the society. The team works, the support and the encouragement is one of a kind. Dicom in summary was one of the biggest gifts Gouni gave me.
The Directorate of Competitions has influenced me in various aspects... From a novice who hates debating to being someone who can now not only debate, but can also coach others in a debate, Introduced me to the world of British Parliamentary debate as an adjudicator. Most importantly, it has exposed me to informations I might not ordinarily come on contact with, as well as opportunities not limited to Nigeria or Africa, but a Global opportunity like the DOHA debates Ambassadorship Program of which I await their certificate as an Ambassador. The directorate of competitions has indeed been impactful to me as a student. I have been able to interact with other students and also able to show forth talents I never knew I had. And also able to learn new skills from other people. It has indeed helped me come out from my comfort space and being recognised by others even my very own university.
Message/Testimonial * I've always been competitive since childhood. But being a part of DICOM made me see just another light to engaging in competitions, just for the reward. I've developed eloquent public speaking skills, and I can now render smart and strategic arguments, which is even very valuable for my profession as a law student. Also, this directorate has gained me the recognition I never knew I needed, as it has helped me maintain a certain standard of excellence in my personality, because I now know that all eyes will be watching "that girl that's always coming out to debate". The Directorate has done more impact than it knows. Not only does it push students out to spot light but it also provokes a healthy competitive spirit in students to widen their horizon, and interaction with other students with a beautiful touch of excellence and exceptional uniqueness. Life is all about getting better at what you do. The directorate of competition at Godfrey Okoye University has been instrumental to my wholistic growth. I am proud to be part of the movement. More accolades to the director for her unwavering support.
It's been amazing being a member of this family. The love, encouragement, healthy competition, and mind-blowing argument. I must say that this platform really brought my logicality to life. I specifically thank Mrs uchanta chukwu, who has been not just a coordinator but a mother and a vibe to the family. The fact that she thought she taught us not just how to debate or argue but also took us to places many of us have never been to and we experienced life differently, saw others who also love what we do, learnt different types and presentation of argument even went for a life competition at debate coolit. Omo, I no fit forget the tension. DICOM has been life changing coming from a person who hates association or anything that involves people but I must confess, I learnt a lot about cooperative work, team building, listening and speaking skill the best of them is composure especially when you are on stage. I never thought in my life I would allow people see me talk but DICOM made it a reality that today I can stand at any podium or stage and speak my mind with a very organized sense of argument and properly noted premise and conclusion.
