After days of intense brainstorming, coding, and problem-solving, three teams stood out from the rest.
Team Reniside emerged as the overall winner, securing a prize of ₦3 million. Team Majesty took the First Runner-Up position with ₦2 million, while Team Grace finished as Second Runner-Up, winning ₦1 million.
Out of 19 competing teams, these winners, who are now millionaires, impressed a panel of judges drawn from the tech industry, Bluecode Africa, and Maliroso Team and Godfrey Okoye University. The rigorous judging process evaluated their innovation, technical expertise, and ability to create practical solutions.
This hackathon was more than just a competition.
It was a showcase of creativity and the potential of young tech minds. Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and groundbreaking ideas.

It was a moment of celebration at Godfrey Okoye University Enugu as nine students received a total of ₦6 million in prize money after emerging as the best in the Bluecode Hackathon Enugu.
The competition, organized by the Directorate of Competitions and sponsored by Bluecode Africa brought together 19 teams who worked tirelessly to design innovative applications using Bluecode’s payment API. After a thorough evaluation by industry experts, three teams came out on top:
First Place – Reniside Team (₦3,000,000)
Two young men impressed the judges with their groundbreaking fintech solution, earning them the top prize.
Second Place – Team Majesty (₦2,000,000)
A diverse team of three men and two women secured second place with their creative and functional application.
Third Place – Team Grace (₦1,000,000)
Their well-thought-out solution earned them third place, proving their talent and dedication.
The event had in attendance the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, who encouraged the winners to keep pushing boundaries. He also announced that the Enugu State Government is looking to integrate technology into its e-governance programs and will involve participants from the hackathon in future tech initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Christian Anieke, Deputy VC Administration, Prof. Sergius Udeh, reminded participants that a university is not just for learning but also for research and community service. He emphasized that Godfrey Okoye University is committed to innovation and advancing technology.
The Managing Director of Bluecode Nigeria, Mr. Davidson Regha, urged the participants to think big and develop their ideas further, while Bluecode Africa’s Managing Director, Mr. Odin Krisymayr, praised the university for producing students with such a strong interest in technology.
Director of Competitions, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, expressed gratitude to Bluecode Africa for sponsoring the initiative. She reaffirmed that the Directorate of Competitions will continue to organize events that challenge and inspire students.
For the winners, this was not just about prize money. It was about proving that young minds in Nigeria and Godfrey Okoye University in particular can create world-class solutions. It was about setting the stage for bigger opportunities in the tech world.
The future of technology is being built right here, and these students are leading the way.
For the first time, Godfrey Okoye University stepped onto the prestigious stage of the African Novice Tournament, competing against some of the best young debaters across the continent. And what a debut it was!
Our incredible team, GOU CA (Aguigwo Gerald and Cos-Anyikwa Chidera), showcased their brilliance and tenacity, securing a spot among Africa's Top 10 debate teams! This phenomenal achievement proves that GOUNI debaters can hold their own at the highest levels.
But that’s not all—our adjudication team also made history! Ekeh Anthony Emmanuel ranked 9th in Africa for adjudication, while Rev. Sister Onwuka Vivian secured the 10th spot, solidifying our presence among the best critical thinkers and analysts on the continent.
Even more exciting, two of our debaters and adjudicators made it to the quarter-finals, proving their skill, resilience, and ability to compete at an elite level.
This is just the beginning! With the foundation we have built, GOUNI is poised for even greater success on the global debate stage.

Meet the Mistresses and Master of Calligraphy: Celebrating the PEN GOLD champions at GoUni’s 16th Matriculation!
Godfrey Okoye University Enugu is committed to nurturing talent and encouraging students to excel through various competitions. During the 16th Matriculation Ceremony, the university recognized the winners of the inaugural PEN GOLD competition hosted by the Directorate of Competitions, which celebrated penmanship and calligraphy. This special award presentation marked a new tradition aimed at introducing students to a culture of excellence and hard work.
The winners were:
First Place: Nneoma Akwam (Computer Science) – ₦50,000
Second Place: Agbaghara Christabel Chinonyerem (Nursing Science) – ₦30,000
Third Place: Anawune Michael Jimetochukwu (College of Medicine) – ₦20,000
The Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, presented the prizes and commended the winners for their dedication. He urged all students to seize opportunities to participate in competitions to enhance their knowledge and gain recognition on national and international platforms.

The Doha Debates Ambassador Program brings together young leaders from across the globe to engage in expertly mentored virtual sessions aimed at redefining public discourse. These leaders work towards solving pressing global issues through the majlis-style debate and building a healthier, more equitable future.
This year's program saw applications from over 40 countries, and Ekeh Anthony Emmanuel has earned his place among the world's brightest minds.

Godfrey Okoye University wins big at the Abuja City Journal National Essay Competition! Godfrey Okoye University has emerged as the First Runner-Up in the prestigious Abuja City Journal National Essay Competition for Tertiary Institutions! Congratulations to our star writer Ojiako Amarachi Judith, who made us proud by clinching the Second Position and winning a grand prize of ₦1.5 Million and to the entire GoUni family for also being honoured as the Institution with the Most Participation, showcasing our dedication to academic excellence and student engagement.
The First Position went to Bells University of Technology, while Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, secured the third position. The prestigious event was hosted by Abuja City Journal, with sponsorship from the Presidential Initiative on CNG (Pi-CNG), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), and others. With over 700,000 entries received nationwide, the competition highlighted the intellectual depth of our nation, narrowing down to just 25 finalists. Speaking at the event, Mr. Folusho Ojo Sylvanus, CEO of Abuja City Journal, described the journey to actualizing the competition's second edition as both 'tasking yet rewarding.' He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Federal Government, PI-CNG, and FIRS for their support in creating a platform that nurtures and celebrates young intellectuals.

In a remarkable feat, Godfrey Okoye University's debate team has clinched the National Novice Championship at the 10th edition of NDC-Iri Oma, hosted by the Nigeria Debate Community. For the first time, our talented debaters not only qualified for the finals but went on to secure the 1st position, earning the prestigious title of National Novice Champions in British Parliamentary Debate!
Individual Accolades: -Donald Ogbonna: Ranked 4th Best Speaker, -Adibo Tiffany: Ranked 5th Best Speaker.
Public Speaking Excellence: -Egbogu Favour: Reached the finals and ranked 6th Best Speaker.

Celebrating Excellence in Competitions at Godfrey Okoye University Enugu! The management of Godfrey Okoye University Enugu is thrilled with our institution’s incredible achievements in debate, public speaking, and essay competitions at state, national, and international levels!
On the second day of our 12th Convocation Week, the Directorate of Competitions Day was a resounding success, showcasing the impressive talents and dedication of our students. The Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, proudly announced all the successes recorded in competitions within a few months. The Vice-Chancellor credited these achievements to the dedication of the Director of the Directorate, Mrs. Uchanta Chukwu, assuring that management will continue to support individuals who bring GOU to new heights.
Mrs. Chukwu expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and management, promising that the Directorate will keep winning more laurels for the institution and the state.
We were honoured to have the Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Ernest Obodo, at the event. He commended the Vice-Chancellor on GOU’s growth and praised the extraordinary talents showcased. Special thanks to Lady Jane Ndukwe, Director of Students Mentorship and Parents Forum, for her invaluable collaboration in hosting the Kindness Challenge.

Historic Achievement for Godfrey Okoye University at the West African Universities Debating Championship! Our students have broken new ground in the ongoing West African Universities Debating Championship! In a phenomenal performance, Favour Egbogu from the Faculty of Law reached the Semi-finals in Public Speaking, while Team GOU F, comprised of Adibo Tiffany Chiemelie (International Relations) and Donald Ogbonna (Accountancy), achieved same in Debate!
Despite being novices in British Parliamentary debate, Team GOU F went head-to-head with seasoned debaters from some of West Africa's top universities and emerged victorious. This is a first for us, as it marks Godfrey Okoye University's debut at this level of public speaking and debate, competing against highly trained opponents.
At the end of the tournament, Ogbonna Donald ranked 18th in West Africa while Adibo Tiffany ranked 25th in West Africa as a debater.

7. National Debates Selection: Two of our students from Team Storm, Ebenyi Chinecherem and Adibo Tiffany Chiemelie, have been selected among Enugu’s top 15 debaters.
DebateCoolit Tournament Update: Godfrey Okoye University Teams Advance
The Directorate of Competitions in conjunction with the Faculty of Computer Science, hosted GoU's first-ever Hackathon Competition, sponsored by the Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Track I.T.
The competition aimed to foster innovation and technological solutions among students. Winners: Ogbe Somtochukwu developed a facial recognition attendance system and won the overall best prize. He received a cash award and a three-month supply of internet data, and his software will be incubated at the university's Incubation Centre. Obiano Chukwuemeka Isreal secured second place with his innovative blood bank system, earning a cash prize. Arinze Mary Rose placed third with her smart farming irrigation system, also receiving a cash prize.
This successful event highlights the university's commitment to promoting technological innovation and entrepreneurship among its students.
The first-ever Inter-Faculty Debate and Quiz Competition at Godfrey Okoye University Enugu concluded after weeks of intense competition. The Faculty of Arts emerged as the quiz champion, winning N100,000, with the College of Medicine and the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences securing second and third places with N70,000 and N50,000, respectively.
In the debate on Decolonizing the Curriculum, the Faculty of Law claimed the top prize of N100,000, while the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Environmental Studies and the Faculty of Arts took second and third places, earning N70,000 and N50,000. Special recognition was given to Ozor Chisom (Best Speaker) and Obialor Agape (Best Quiz Competitor), both 100-level students, who received N100,000 each from Okwulora.
Vice-Chancellor Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke presented the prizes and commended all participants for their outstanding efforts and presentations.
The GoUni Radio Quiz Finals aimed at revitalizing the culture of reading, particularly in Catholic schools across Enugu, concluded with outstanding performances from all participants.

The awards were presented by Rev. Fr. Prof. Ikechukwu Ani, Secretary of Enugu State Catholic Education, and Rev. Fr. Benjamin Achi, Station Manager of GoUni Radio, who promised continued support from the Education Board. This inaugural edition marks the beginning of an annual tradition.
Godfrey Okoye University's esteemed quiz program, 'In the Know' is a current affairs and general knowledge competition tailored for the university's students. Sponsored by Umuchinemere PMFB, the first season saw three brilliant students emerge as winners.
The proud recipients were recently awarded their prize money by our Vice Chancellor, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke. Kingsley Unije, a final-year Computer Science student, claimed the star prize, while Olufemi Yusuf, a final-year Mass Communication student, took home second place. Immaculate Ndubuisi, a dedicated student from the Faculty of Education, secured the third prize.
